Islamic Relief has been working in Kenya since 1993

Initially giving support to vulnerable children and their families through a one-to-one orphan sponsorship programme in Mandera County, northeast Kenya. Since then, we have established a fully-fledged country office in Nairobi with field offices in Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Kilifi, Kajiado, Tana River and Marsabit Counties. Across Kenya, we provide life saving emergency assistance and longer-term development support to the most margnalised communities.

Islamic Relief is registered locally with the Kenya NGO Board (Reg.No. 218/051/204/0374/3386) and is governed by a Board of Directors comprising Kenyan and international members. While Islamic Relief’s work is faith inspired, we are not a religious organisation; rather an independent, non-political humanitarian organisation that assists people according to need and does not discriminate in any way. This commitment is also enshrined in global accords and partnerships: Islamic Relief is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent (ICRC) Movement, adheres to the Sphere Standards for Humanitarian Action and the Humanitarian Accountability Standards. Islamic Relief has also attained Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) certification which recongnises the quality of our aid programmes.
